Design that brings dignity to care environments

Recognition

Cala, the chair collection developed by Alegre Design for Seniorcare, has received a Red Dot Award 2026.

The distinction recognises a project that brings design quality into healthcare and assisted living environments, where comfort, durability, hygiene and emotional well-being must work together with precision.

For Alegre Design and Seniorcare, this award confirms a shared approach to product development: creating furniture that responds to real care conditions without giving up warmth, clarity or long-term value.

More than a healthcare chair, Cala was conceived as a system of comfort and support for spaces where people need to feel safe, accompanied and at ease.

A healthcare chair Collection designed for everyday care

Cala was developed for environments where functionality and human experience are equally important.

Healthcare and assisted living spaces require furniture that performs under demanding daily use. It must be resistant, easy to maintain, ergonomic and adaptable. But it also needs to contribute to a calmer, more familiar atmosphere.

Cala responds to this need through a serene and timeless design language, moving away from the conventional image of medical furniture.

The project combines ergonomic comfort, structural durability, easy maintenance, visual warmth, adaptability across care environments and long-term use.

Its rounded volumes, wide arms and carefully considered proportions support both the user and the caregiver. The collection is designed for bedrooms, waiting areas, living spaces, consultation rooms and other environments where care takes place every day.

Crafted with the warmth of beech wood and developed with the technical requirements of healthcare furniture, Cala brings together domestic sensitivity and industrial performance.

Accompanying Seniorcare

Developed together with Seniorcare, Cala reflects a shared commitment to improving the experience of care through design.

The project builds on Alegre Design’s long-term experience in ergonomics and product development, applied here to a sector where every detail has a direct impact on people’s comfort, autonomy and well-being.

Red Dot Award 2026 recognises not only the product itself, but also the value of designing with responsibility for environments where furniture must support daily routines, professional work and human dignity.

Cala shows how industrial design can bring clarity, comfort and emotional balance to healthcare spaces.
