Archer is conceived from a clear premise: placing movement at the centre of an operational chair. Rather than approaching ergonomics as a set of independent adjustments, the project understands it as a continuous relationship between body, structure and space. The aim is to provide constant support that accompanies movement naturally and without interruption.

Designed for international market, Archer combines a clearly defined structural system with a chromatic identity developed specifically for the project. Its arched profile follows a structural logic based on controlled tension, inspired by the behaviour of a bow under load. The result is an operational chair with presence, intended for intensive use and for a direct, intuitive interaction with the body.

Our challenge

From static ergonomics to continuous support

The main challenge of the project was to transform ergonomics from a static system into a continuous support mechanism that works almost invisibly for the user. Archer needed to adapt to movement without imposing predefined postures, while maintaining consistent lumbar care at all times.
To achieve this, the design is structured around sacral support as the core ergonomic element. A multi segment sacral adjustment system was developed to ensure constant contact with the lumbar area, regardless of the position adopted. The structure, made of lightweight and flexible plastic, remains permanently tensioned and deforms progressively in response to the user’s movement. This approach results in a model of passive ergonomics in which the chair continuously accompanies the body.
As a key point of interaction, a dual axis armrest system was also developed. Designed by Alegre Design, the armrests allow adjustment in height, depth and angle, as well as full 360 degree rotation. This wide range of movement facilitates arm and forearm support in different working positions and improves interaction with digital devices in changing work

The impact

A chair that moves with the body

Archer establishes a direct and continuous relationship between the user and the chair. The sacral support system maintains uninterrupted lumbar contact, reducing muscle tension and fatigue associated with long periods of sitting. The structure responds proportionally to the load applied by the body, accompanying movement while preserving stability and ergonomic tension from the very first use.
The armrest system significantly increases the chair’s adaptability, supporting frequent posture changes and contemporary working modes. Together with the multi axis headrest, which incorporates dual rotation and a wide adjustment range, Archer provides full body support with minimal conscious intervention from the user.
From a visual perspective, the product’s identity is built through its structural and material decisions. The Radiant Chroma upholstery, developed specifically for Archer, uses knitted fabrics with controlled gradients and colour transitions that reinforce the reading of the structure. Whether configured with a mesh backrest, upholstered surfaces or an optional headrest, the chair maintains a light, breathable and technically precise appearance.

Design journey

Designing under permanent tension

The development of the project was guided from the outset by the concept of permanent tension. This idea defined both the geometry and the mechanical behaviour of the chair. The backrest was designed to work under constant elastic tension, adapting smoothly as the user leans forward or reclines.
The mechanisms were integrated as an active part of the user experience. Seat adjustments are operated through cable controlled levers positioned directly on the seat, improving accessibility and enabling intuitive interaction. Throughout the process, the design sought a coherent relationship between structure, movement and material.
Archer is an operational chair conceived as a dynamic system. A product in which passive ergonomics, structural clarity and technical precision come together to accompany body movement and redefine sitting as an active, balanced and efficient experience.

Its arched geometry echoes the poised stance of an archer, expressing balance, tension and controlled movement through form. Alegre Design
