EIRA is a modular seating system design developed for Narbutas and it was conceived as a response to the evolving nature of contemporary workspaces. As offices become more fluid, shared and people-centered, seating must move beyond function. It must integrate seamlessly, support wellbeing and remain relevant over time.
From the outset, we envisioned EIRA as a chair defined by balance, visually light yet ergonomically robust, essential in expression yet capable of supporting the dynamic rhythms of everyday work. Sustainability was not an afterthought but a guiding principle, shaping decisions toward responsible materials and long-lasting construction.

Our challenge
Designing adaptability for contemporary offices
We aimed to design a chair that felt intuitive from the first interaction. Its backrest had to follow the natural contours of the body, encouraging movement while maintaining consistent support. The mechanism needed to adapt effortlessly to different users, especially in shared environments where flexibility is key.
At the same time, EIRA had to integrate across diverse architectural settings, from focused workstations to collaborative spaces, providing visual coherence without imposing itself. Achieving this balance required refining proportions, reducing complexity and ensuring that every element served a clear purpose.
The impact
Where intuitive comfort meets responsible innovation
EIRA contributes a sense of clarity and calm to the workspace. Its refined silhouette allows it to blend naturally into both subtle and expressive interiors, complementing rather than dominating the environment.
Ergonomically, it is designed to respond to the user. The weight-sensitive mechanism, adjustable lumbar support and adaptable components create a seating experience that feels immediate and effortless. This makes EIRA particularly suited to flexible offices where workstations are shared and constantly reinterpreted.
Sustainability reinforces its impact. Up to 43% of its components are made from recycled materials, and the chair is conceived for durability and recyclability at the end of its lifecycle. In this way, EIRA supports a more responsible and forward-looking product culture
Design journey
From natural inspiration to engineered evolution
Our process began by reducing the chair to its essentials. We focused on achieving visual lightness and structural clarity, refining the silhouette until aesthetics and function existed in equilibrium.
Ergonomics were developed around adaptability. The geometry of the backrest was carefully shaped to follow the body’s natural posture while allowing freedom of movement. Adjustable elements, including lumbar support, armrests and an optional headrest, form a system designed to serve different users throughout the day.
The name EIRA is inspired by nature, not as something static, but as a force in constant transformation. It reflects the chair’s fluid design and adaptive spirit, allowing it to blend effortlessly into any environment.Alegre Design
